Big Pond

Suriah Suim

She works tirelessly to fulfill her customers’ orders. No artistic
or graphic design job is too large or little for her.  From requests
for portraits to be done in pastels or oil to drafting out a visual
concept, she can deliver. Such is her diversity in media. This is
probably because Suriah is self-taught. Through the years she
has honed her skills, knowledge and techniques through the
numerous ‘artistic’ jobs that she has done.  Practice and
patience are necessary, plus a sharp eye for details and artistic
soul.

In 1987, she began to seriously take up painting as her full-time
career, first joining the Artists Colony at Kuala Lumpur Craft
Complex and later moving to Central Market’s Annexe, where she
is currently the only female artist there.

Her works have been exhibited in various galleries, including the
National Art Gallery and collected by luminaries such as both of our
former Malaysian Prime Ministers, cabinet ministers and the former
mayor of Kuala Lumpur.
